New Economic Development Operating Model for Kāpiti

In November 2024, the Kāpiti Coast District Council approved in principle the implementation of the new Economic Development operating model over the next three years. This marks an exciting time for Kāpiti as it seeks other funding opportunities for the district. The phases are outlined below.

Phase 1 – Establishing a Charitable Trust

In early 2025, Council will select a Council Trustee and a mana whenua Trustee to the charitable trust.
An independent recruitment process will be undertaken to make skills-based appointments to the remaining 3-4 trustee positions, making it a total of 5-6.
Once the Trustees are appointed and performance expectations are set, the process to register as a Charitable Trust will be undertaken.

Phase 2 – Establishing a Limited Liability Company

The existing Economic Development Kotahitanga Board will be the interim board of the new Limited Liability Company to ensure continuity and align with the 2025–2027 strategy.
Working with Council, the existing Economic Development Kotahitanga Board will establish the Limited Liability Company.
The Charitable Trust will be the sole shareholder of the Limited Liability Company.
