Backing Bold Ideas - One Startup at a Time

According to a 2025 report by the e61 Institute, it’s not small firms that drive economic growth – it’s young ones.

Early-stage companies contribute six percentage points to annual employment growth, and the future of our economy depends on fresh ideas and bold founders willing to take risks.

To grow a dynamic and future-focused economy, New Zealand must support both proven industries and the new sectors shaping how we live and work.

Startups are at the heart of this transformation - turning innovation into jobs, exports, and productivity growth. They are the businesses that inject new energy into our economy, create competition, and drive innovation.

With a strong business ecosystem and strategic location, just 35 minutes from the capital, Kāpiti is supporting startups into the future.

Kāpiti: a smart base for innovation

Kāpiti is emerging as one of New Zealand’s most exciting districts for startups.

Founders here enjoy a connected community, a supportive business network, and a lifestyle that attracts and retains top talent. From health innovation to sustainable consumer brands, local entrepreneurs are building ventures with national influence and global ambition.

Founders can access like-minded supporters, and networks inside and outside of Kāpiti. With significant events held in the district such as the Pegasus Startup World Cup, Startup Programme, Ōtaki Startup Weekend and ThinkTech Kāpiti, there is plenty of support available.

Now’s the time: Join the Startup Programme

Take your idea or business to the next level with the Startup Programme.

We are looking for early-stage founders and businesses who are keen to scale their business or ideas.

In this grass-roots programme, you will be part of a collaborative, connected group that will have access to expertise to grow your business.

Your idea or business could be from any sector. We are looking for committed individuals from Kāpiti who have an appetite to scale their business.

The six-month programme will take place in person once per month and every fortnight online. The time of this will be determined by the majority of the group's availability. Each founder's needs will be discussed at the beginning of the programme to determine how these can be best met.

Please complete the survey to register initial interest after which time you will be contacted directly.
