The Business Innovation and Ventures and Partnerships teams support the growth of Kāpiti’s economy by helping businesses, investors, and partners turn ideas into action.
Business Innovation and Ventures and Partnerships
We work collaboratively across Council, the business community, and with regional partners to connect capability, capital, and opportunity to ensure Kāpiti remains a great place to live, work, visit, and invest. We translate the ambitions of Kāpiti’s Economic Development Strategy and Destination Management Plan into real, on-the-ground outcomes for businesses and communities.
Areas of Focus

Business Support & Capability – Supporting existing businesses and startups to access advice, funding, pathways, and skills development to strengthen resilience and enable growth.
- Sector and Cluster Development – Developing and facilitating cluster development in priority sectors including food & beverage, tech & innovation, tourism, and creative industries.

Ventures and Partnerships – Working with businesses, investors, and partners to enable new ventures, support expansion, and attract investment and businesses into Kāpiti.

Workforce & Skills Initiatives – Leading initiatives that grow local talent and connect people to employment opportunities, including initiatives such as the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs and Tech internships.

Tourism & Events – Growing visitor experiences, supporting destination initiatives, visitor experiences and managing the Major Events Fund to increase economic impact.
How we work
The team works in close partnership with:
- The Economic Development Kotahitanga Board (EDKB).
- The Tourism Advisory Board.
- Local business networks and associations, and collectives.
- Regional partners including iwi, WellingtonNZ, and government agencies.
Through these partnerships, we help align effort, unlock opportunities, and reduce barriers for businesses operating in or looking to invest in Kāpiti.
